Mark Dorman describes himself as a colorist saying his paintings are on a basic level impressionistic and post-impressionistic in color but very expressionistic in terms of marks and movements. His pastels reflect both abstract and realistic qualities. Mark Dorman has studied art and honed his talent both abroad and in the U.S.   While studying in France Mark became cognizant of the artists’ concern with colors in nature.  Mark Dorman’s art shows are successful because his paintings are based on good sound color structure. His shows as a whole are consistent as they reflect the same artistic language throughout.  Dorman’s art focuses on color relationships. He selects contrasting and opposite colors in the color wheel to achieve a vibrant effect. The result is a heightened sense of color lending a mood of drama and excitement to his paintings. Mark says that each of his paintings is a commitment--- a message both political and spiritual is at the heart of his creations.   His underlying dream is that the landscapes and scenes his painting represent will be ecologically preserved. In a society where we can no longer take the grandeur of nature for granted, Dorman’s artwork compels us to acknowledge and appreciate the soothing and aesthetic properties that are inherent in the natureal environment. Viewing Mark Dorman’s work lifts the sprit and achieves his goal in moving the viewer toward an upward surge of hope.
